 I harvest all my fiber by clipping for maximum comfort to the rabbit and to ensure that the  re-grown coat is as soft as the first.

My shearing technique helps to eliminate short cuts for a smoother and easier spin.

 


Angora rabbit fiber is one of the softest and warmest natural fibers. It is enjoyable to spin and blends well with other fibers.

Angora fiber is seven times warmer than sheep's wool and will add an elegant halo to what ever project you are working on.

 

I grow my fiber out to a 3 to 4 inchstaple length. This is an ideal length for spinning.

- This length spins with ease and helps to eliminate tanglings that can occur with a longer staple length. Tangles produce more nebs and noils ( Lumps and Bumps) in your finished yarns.

- This length fiber also has a more lively feel. In my experience I have found that a much longer, older coat can have lifeless and dull hand feel.

-At 3-4 inches the staple length is long enough for the second growth of a non- synchronized Angora breeds' coat to grow. This will help prevent second cuts and reduce shedding in your yarn and finished garment.

This is one ounce of fiber  from a Black German/Giant Angora. The rabbit color is considered black but the fiber, due to its length, dilutes to a beautiful gray.

When spun into yarn it will be a soft gray.
